🧢 Meet “Bob”: The Fake Soldier Misleading Millions on TikTok

AI misinformation just hit a disturbing new high—this time, in the middle of real-life protests in Los Angeles.

A TikTok account posted a video of “Bob,” an alleged National Guard soldier giving a behind-the-scenes look at crowd control. The video has over 1 million views. But here’s the twist:

• Bob is 100% AI-generated, from his voice to his face

• Subtle clues gave it away: a fake badge, “LAPC” instead of “LAPD,” and garbled traffic lights

• The account behind Bob posts satire, but there’s no disclaimer in the video itself

Thousands commented thinking Bob was real, thanking him for his service.

But it gets worse.

Some users tried to verify photos from the protests using AI chatbots. ChatGPT falsely said they were from Afghanistan, 2021. Grok gave the same answer—then later corrected itself. The real photos? Verified by the San Francisco Chronicle just days ago.
